How To Fix Rainbow Six Siege Freeze in Preparation Phase, FPS Drops to 30, Stutters etc.

It has almost been nearly 2 years since this game's release, and even after the Ubisoft's "Operation Health", promising to get the game finally fixed for good, it still has numerous issues, both relating to connectivity and FPS. Now even with the coming of the final DLC of this Season, Operation White Noise, there are still a majority of people who face the freezes, stutters, crashes etc. related problems. So, here are some methods that I found, which might solve these issues for you.

#1 Checking if your graphics drivers are up to date

Sometimes the real issue about the those pesky Freezes and FPS Drops might be because you have a older version of your graphics driver. You might want to check your drivers again to make sure that they have the latest version. I am a Nvidia user, and they release new driver versions, every once in 2 months at maximum delay. If you don't know how, just open up your Geforce Experience, which also gives you the ability to download drivers through it.

Driver Tab: Here you can view you current driver version, as well as download the latest version

Home Tab: Here you can view your games, as well as optimise them

You can also download the latest driver version, manually, from Nvidia's Official Website as an alternate means of download. http://www.nvidia.in/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-in

#2 Verify the Inegrity of Game Files via Steam

This method is only for the users who got the game from Steam. You can use this simple, yet effective feature provided by Steam, which might kill the freezes. What you have to do is:-
  • Right-click on "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege", and click on Properties

  • In the Properties Dialogue box, select the Local Files Tab, and then click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.

Now this process takes a very long time, so be patient and wait for a while, because this might fix it.

#3 Set the Priority to High

Now hold on, just setting the priority to high is not simply going to do the trick. I also tried setting the priority to high, but it overloaded my CPU and my whole PC froze. There is a minor tweak that you should do before doing this. Also, never set the priority to Realtime, as it may crash your PC, or even result in the alteration of some files. Do not go beyond High. Anyways, follow these steps:-

  • Go to your game's directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege), and then scroll to the .exe file of the game. Right-click on it and choose the "Properties" option. Only choose the "RainbowSix.exe" file, and not the "RainbowSix_BE.exe" file, as the first one is the launcher file, while the other is the executable file for Battleye, a service of Six Siege for stopping hackers.

  • Now go to the Compatibility Tab, and then tick the "Run this program as an administrator" option. You can also untick the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings", if running the game as adminstrator does not work, and then hit apply.

You can even try doing the same thing to the "RainbowSix_BE.exe" file, if this does not work
  • Now just simply start your game, through Steam or Uplay, and then before the launcher file image shows up on the screen, open up the Task Manager, and go to the Details Tab, and find the "RainbowSix.exe" executable file.

  • Right-click on it, and hover the cursor over the "Set Priority" option, and select the "High" option. You can also try "Above Normal" if the first one does not work.

After that, you are done. I would also like to mention is that, you will have to change the Priority every time, before you start to play, because it is temporary data, but the administrator option will be permanent, as long as you do not untick it from the property of the game file.

#4 Try reinstalling the whole game (Steam only)

If none of these fixes above work for you, the last resort is to uninstall and reinstall it again from Steam. You can save yourself the re-downloading time, by renaming the game's directory folder in this location (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege), and then going to Steam and right-clicking on the game, and then clicking on the "Uninstall" option.

I can honestly say that Rainbow Six Siege is one of the buggiest games I have played so far, and yet, it still manages to be addicting. Although, I have no problem playing this game at 30 FPS, with low-mid settings, but with the addition of freezes, stutters, crashes, and game-breaking glitches, it sometimes gets alot frustrating for me to play it. Even on high-end PCs, gamers still face the graphical problems, and its all because of the unoptimised Anvil engine, atleast thats what I think. So what do you think about the cause? Just let me know, and hope this solved your problem.
